Self-pay exams

Your plan doesn’t cover the exam or takes long to authorize it? How to have a self-pay exam

What to do when the exam is not covered, you are in a waiting period or the authorization does not arrive, and when self-pay is the best option.

Sometimes you have the medical order in hand, but the exam doesn’t happen: the plan doesn’t cover it, the waiting period hasn’t ended or the authorization takes too long. Meanwhile, the diagnosis waits. See the possible paths.

First, talk to your plan

  • Ask for the reason for the denial or delay and the protocol number of your request.
  • Ask what the deadline for an answer is. ANS, the Brazilian agency that regulates health plans, sets maximum service times: check the ANS website or ask your plan.
  • If your plan offers reimbursement, ask about the rules before paying for the exam yourself.

When self-pay makes sense

  • When the doctor needs the result soon to decide on treatment.
  • When the exam is not covered by your plan or you are in a waiting period.
  • When you want to choose the location and time, including from 6:30 a.m.

How to do it at Vita Imagem

Send a photo of your medical order on WhatsApp and choose the location and time. No plan form or authorization is needed, and the exam is done with the same team and the same equipment that serve all patients.

If you are going to ask your plan for reimbursement, keep the payment receipt and the report.
