Preparation and exam

Do I need to fast?

It depends on the exam. For ultrasound, the complete abdomen and upper abdomen exams require a 6 hour fast; the urinary tract and pelvic exams require a full bladder. Abdomen and lumbar spine X-rays require a 12 hour fast. Bone densitometry needs no fasting. The instructions for each exam are also sent when you book.

I have claustrophobia. Can I have an MRI?

Tell the team when booking.

Is contrast harmful? What if I have allergies?

Exams can be done with or without contrast, as indicated by the doctor who ordered the exam. Tell us when booking if you have allergies or asthma, so the team can explain the preparation.

Can I bring someone with me? And a small child?

Minors must be with a parent or guardian. Torre Marechal has a Kids Area.

Can pregnant women have the exams?

In pregnant women, CT and X-ray are only done with a medical indication (for example, a fracture) and on some areas of the body, with the abdomen protected by a lead apron. MRI can be done from the end of the third month. Ultrasound is done with no radiation. In nuclear medicine, the decision depends on the doctor’s assessment. If you might be pregnant, tell the team before the exam.

Self-pay and payment

Do self-pay patients have the same priority as health plan patients?

The exam is done with the same team and the same equipment used for all patients.
